The project was meticulously developed based on the unique design requirements of an Asian couple who has been residing in Singapore for over two decades. With two school-going children, their priorities centered around creating a conducive study area within their home environment to support their children's educational pursuits.
Academic Space:
The primary challenge and requirement focused on transforming the living room into a functional study space suitable for their young sons. This emphasis underscores the high importance of education in Singaporean culture, where academic excellence is deeply valued.
Preservation of Heritage:
A significant aspect of this project was preserving an existing teakwood strcase that held sentimental value to the family and had been carefully mntned by previous owners. The homeowners elected not to opt for a contemporary redesign but rather conserve this vintage element as a core part of their new apartment design.
Two innovative solutions were implemented to seamlessly integrate this historical feature with modern aesthetics:
Cabinet Integration: A triangular cabinet was strategically placed at the mid-landing, mirroring the teakwood's texture and color tone. This addition not only exted beyond the balustrade but also symbolized growth from an old tree while providing practical storage for Wi-Fi equipment.
Diagonal Converging Line: Inspired by the unique geometry of the strcase, a converging diagonal line was created across one of the walls forming a threshold-cabinet that served as both privacy screen and design element.
Enhanced Bonding:
Since moving into their redesigned home, the family has experienced an enhanced bond through shared spaces. This outcome highlights how thoughtful design can positively impact dly living by fostering togetherness in environments dominated by digital distractions.
The renovation project serves as a testament to design's ability to create harmonious and meaningful living environments that support both individual needs and familial connections.
